My story

Thảo from Vinh, Belén to my travellers

I was born in Vinh, in Nghệ An province. My Vietnamese name is Thảo; Belén is the Spanish name I was given when I studied Spanish at university.

Why I guide

Spanish words, Vietnamese heart

I fell in love with Spanish at university. For five years I have been guiding families, couples and friends from Spain and Latin America across my country, sharing it in their own language.

What I love most is the moment a traveller puts the camera down and simply sits with a family for tea, or watches the incense rise in a pagoda in Huế. That is the Vietnam I want you to meet: not the one from the postcards, but the one we live every day.

Many of my travellers write to me long after they go home. For me, that is the real measure of a good journey.

My family

Where I come from

My family is part of every journey I make. They taught me that a guest is welcomed with a full table and time to talk, and that is how I want you to feel in my country.
